What is a Blog?

Most people today are familiar with the term blog but if you are not then here is a brief description about what actually a blog is.

It is basically a website which is maintained by a single person where he/she can express his feelings and thoughts about a particular event. There maybe others who define blog as a hierarchy of pictures, text and data that can arranged in order so that the latest event comes on the top and one which can be viewed by usage of a particular HTML address. Blog can also be sometimes called a weblog or web- log and the person who maintains it is called the blogger. Updating your blog with articles and any important information that you find is called blogging.

A blogger can choose any topic that interests him/her to write in his/her blog. The topic may vary from photography to fashion, sports to politics, personal opinions and recipes to spirituality. A blog could consist of articles, images or videos depending on the space available on your webpage. Blogs were invented in 1990’s when people used them to maintain a daily diary. Slowly their popularity grew and today there are over 100 million blogs on the internet with the number increasing each day. The reason for their popularity is that they are fairly easy to establish and require tools that are easily available on the internet.

Blogs can be of personal, professional and or corporate in type. The blogs could be also be classified on the basis of the device used to create and maintain it. Some people maintain blogs from their mobile phones while others maintain them thought their PC. Also they maybe classified according to the topic on which they are based. Usually we find that a blog is focused on a single topic.
